Guatemala: UNE-Gana Coalition Throws Support Behind Baldizón

UNE-GANA coalition has announced its support for Manuel Baldizón in Guatemala’s general runoff election in November. Baldizón is the candidate for the LIDER party who got second place in the first round with 23.5% of the votes.

The Great National Alliance (GAN) secretary general, Jaime Martínez, who is also the spokesperson of the ruling alliance UNE-WIN, has stated that the support is due to the party’s political platform, which coincides with that of the coalition.

Martínez made the announcement after a meeting in the Guatemalan capital between leaders of the ruling coalition and Manuel Baldizón himself.

Baldizón will run for presidency against general Otto Pérez Molina from the right-wing Patriot Party, who got 36,1% of the votes in the first round.
