La Bancaria, a syndicate that unites bank workers, announced a national strike starting this midday, if their demands regarding to 35% salaries’ raise are not satisfied.
National secretary of Asociación Bancaria (AB), Eduardo Berrozpe said they are awaiting “a clear and positive offer” from the Chamber and Ministry of Labour, who held polemic discussions last week and came out with the proposal of 15%. Berrozpe considers this number ’unacceptable’, as bank profits in 2012 rose by over 41%.
Berrozpe explained that they expected an adequate proposal over a month ago, but it had never happened. Additionally, he called for the actualisation of the tax reform, saying that “it is not wise to delay with the update when financial activity is not taxed.”
This morning La Bancaria authorities are having work meetings with four chambers that relate to bank workers’. If an agreement is not reached by midday, La Bancaria will run a national strike.
