Mexico: Police Arrest One of FBI’s Most Wanted

Mexican authorities yesterday announced that they have captured Jose Luis Saenz, a drug cartel member suspected of murder, rape and kidnap and one of the FBI’s top 10 most wanted fugitives.

The suspect, a US national, was detained in an operation carried out by Mexican federal agents in conjunction with the FBI on Thursday in the western city of Guadalajara.

The 37-year-old man from California is alleged to have shot and killed two members of a rival gang in Los Angeles in July 1998. The FBI claim that later that year Saenz raped and murdered his ex-girlfriend.

In addition, the fugitive is suspected of murdering a fourth victim in Los Angeles County in 2008. Up till now, Saenz is believed to have created numerous aliases in order to avoid arrest.

The FBI had been offering up to US$100,000 for information about the whereabouts of the cartel member.
