A building under construction collapsed in the Caballito neighbourhood of Buenos Aires this morning, trapping at least six workers.
The event took place around 10 am on the corner of Emilio Mitre and Avenida Directorio, bringing traffic to a halt in the area as the surrounding zone had to be closed off.
A special rescue team arrived on the scene and were able to rescue the workers trapped in the rubble. They have since been transported to various hospitals across the city.
Although in this instance there were no fatalities, doubts about the safety of city construction sites remain. Last October a 22-year-old construction worker from Paraguay died when a wall collapsed while he was working in a Caballito building eight blocks away from today’s incident.
