Delgado Requests Prosecution in Once Train Crash

Federal Prosecutor Federico Delgado requested the prosecution today of all the accused in the Once train crash that killed 51 people and injured more than 700 on February 22.

The list includes the ex-transport secretaries Juan Pablo Schiavi and Ricardo Jaime, head of Trenes Buenos Aires (TBA) Carlo Michele Ferrari, the financial advisor of TBA Antonio Cirigliano, president of Cometrans Claudio Cirigliano, and the driver of the train Marcos Córdoba.

Delgado identified two sets of groups responsible for the tragedy. The first, dubbed “Group Cirigliano” is made up of TBA employees, including the train driver and 23 employees of Grupo Cirigliano, which owns TBA.

The second group includes the public officials who allegedly failed to carry out the controls over the company; both Jamie and Schiavi are in this group.

Delgado also refuted the claims of the defendants that ”human error” on the part of Córdoba left him solely responsible for the crash.

“Everything was like a link on a chain that came together to cause the crash on February 22,” said Delgado.
