Railway Union Leader Arrested

Head of the Railway Union (UF), Rubén “Pollo” Sobrero, was arrested this morning in connection to fires and attacks of railway cars that occurred earlier this year.  In response, the Sarmiento line is closed today due to a railway strike by workers opposing Sobrero’s arrest.

Sobrero is being accused of conspiracy and is assumed responsible for the fires and attacks of railcars of the stations Haedo, Ramos Mejía and Ciudadela, incidents that happened in May.

According to federal judge of San Martín, Juan Manuel Yalj, many others are suspected to be involved and have also been arrested. Leonardo Portorreal, UF spokesman,  has had an arrest warrant issued against him under the same accusations as the union leader.

The Argentine authorities have stated that Sobrero will be questioned in the next few hours.
