The presidents of Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador and Colombia met in Bogotá, Colombia, on Tuesday.
The declaration of the meeting was the implementation of a community law. Special attention was given to “the provisions on free movement of land transportation”.
The summit was attended by Evo Morales, Juan Manuel Santos, Ollanta Humala and Rafael Correa, all agreeing to “carry-out the reengineering of the Andean Integration System”.
They reiterated their “commitment to strengthening the Andean community…to preserve the nations’ historical and cultural heritage.”
This is the first meeting in three years, and the leaders have agreed to hold an annual meeting from now on.
The regional bloc has a history of 42 years and has been approved of a position in the Rio+20 United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development.
