Honduras – Manuel Zelaya Criticizes a Violation of the Pact of Cartagena

This Wednesday former Honduran president Zelaya spoke out against the detention of his former minister, Enrique Flores Lanza.

Flores is being accused of embezzlement of public funds, falsification of public documents and fraud.

Zelaya protested: “The detention against Flores is an outright abuse of an innocent person and a violation of the pact of Cartagena.”

According to the pact the Honduran court should reject orders to capture Zelaya and his former government officials, including Flores.

As a result, Zelaya announced that he will convene the People’s National Resistance Front (FNRP) to carry out actions against the detention of Flores. Furthermore, he intends to alert the leaders of the Monitoring Committee of the Pact of Cartagena as well as the international community.
