Venezuela: Chavez Cured of Cancer

After four months of treatment in Cuba, the Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez (57) returns from Havana claiming he is has been cured.

“I am free from the disease” he stated. He added that although there have been no cancer cells detected in the last tests, he will continue to be monitored and tested every four months to verify his health status.

The president has publicised claims of recovery in the past and has relapsed. The statement of recovery comes as elections lie ahead.

“It’s easier for a donkey to pass through the eye of a needle than for the opposition to beat Chavez in these elections, but fine, try and do it, they have every right to,” stated the President as he disembarked the plane in La Fria, western Venezuela.

Chavez has been in power since 1999, and will stand for re-election next year.
