Boxer Kills Pregnant Woman in Car Accident

The boxer, Rodrigo “La Hiena” (hyena) Barrios is being investigated after he caused a serious road accident, which left a pregnant woman dead, and six others injured.

The accident occurred a little before 4pm on Sunday in Mar del Plata, where Barrios’ truck crashed into another vehicle, which in turn hit two other cars and ploughed into a group of five pedestrians. The public prosecutor for Mar del Plata, Teresa Martínez Ruiz, is to question Barrios in order to ascertain his culpability in the homicide and injuries.

On Sunday, Barrios turned himself in to the police, four hours after having fled the scene of the accident. Official sources have informed that after some rigorous interrogation proceedings, Barrios was moved to lodgings, where he must stay until taken to court.

The ongoing inquiry states that around ten blocks from Mar del Plata’s centre, Barrio’s BMW X5 truck crashed into a Fiat 147 which had come to a halt at traffic lights. The impact caused the car to knock into a mother and daughter who were crossing the street. A parked Ford Escort and Mitsubishi Lancer were also affected by the impact.

After the accident, the driver of the BMW fled, driving on the wrong side of the road for about four blocks, before abandoning the truck at the side of an old road which connects the city with Miramar. The truck was picked up as Barrios returned to the city, to turn himself in.

Two young women who had been beside the Fiat 147 were seriously injured. One of them, who was 20 years of age and four months pregnant, suffered damage to her spleen and kidney, as well as a fracturing her tibia. She later died in the Interzonal hospital, as she underwent surgery.

The boxer’s lawyer, José Vera, said on Sunday that at the time of the accident, his client had not been under the influence of alcohol.
