At the second busiest voting center in El Salvador, 131 voting tables stretched over a kilometre down the streets of Usulután, El Salvador. Thousands of people crammed the busy street, some around registry lists posed on cardboard placards, others having already voted stay just to chat and watch the spectacle of the election day crowds.

Over the last few weeks, it has been difficult to miss the huge advertisements announcing the arrival of the “phantom” to Buenos Aires. Rather aptly, Teatro Opera on Corrientes has the honour of hosting arguably the most famous Andrew Lloyd Webber musical for the first time in Argentina.

For those who are not fans of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s more obscure work, the name of this bookshop and cafe may initially seem slightly bizarre. It is worth explaining, therefore, that the name is taken from a posthumously published collection of that writer’s letters and essays relating to his nervous breakdown.

As soon as I entered Walrus Books I felt very much at home. This may be because my Dad is a voracious reader who has turned our dining room into a library!
