The Slut Walk or Marcha de las Putas came to Argentina in the bitter cold of winter. Women in Buenos Aires, Rosario and Mar del Plata braved the cold to bare their feelings and breasts to the public. The march in the capital started at the Obelisk, the city’s phallic symbol, and marching to Congress.
The global protest movement started in Toronto after policeman Michael Sanguinetti said: “I’ve been told not to say this, however, women should avoid dressing like sluts in order not be victimised.” The statement sparked marches in Toronto, London, San Francisco, Madrid and now Buenos Aires, with women taking control of the the word Slut (or Puta) and emphatically stating that No means No. Photographers Jessie Akin and Shane Korpisto captured the march and share photos with our readers here.
