DÃa de la Memoria por la Verdad y la Justicia (the Day of Memory for Truth and Justice) is an important historical event in Argentina. Held on the 24th March, it is the anniversary of the coup d’état of 1976 that brought the last military junta to power. A public holiday in Argentina, it is a commemoration of the estimated 30,000 victims of the military dictatorship that lasted for seven years. A poignant dedication to these victims, demonstrations take place throughout the city, culminating on Av. de Mayo during the afternoon, and offer a valuable and emotive historical insight into Argentina’s troubled past.
