A 21-year old man, identified as a hooligan of River Plate, died this morning at 1am in hospital. The man sustained a fatal stab wound during the Boca Unidos – River Plate B Division match yesterday.
Gonzalo Saucedo was reportedly stabbed during violent conflict between two competing factions of hooligans affiliated to River Plate in the Monumental Stadium.
Eye-witnesses say the violence began just after the start of the second half of yesterday’s match. One witness told Radio 10 this morning that the hooligans were “looking for guys from another faction of River Plate. From what I understand, the young man was from the other group.”
Treated at first on site for his injuries, Saucedo was then taken to hospital where he died in the operating theatre.
Police have seized CCTV footage from the Monumental Stadium, in hopes of clarifying what happened. So far no arrests have been made.
Saucedo’s death is the last in a string of recent events concerning football violence. Last month Daniel Sosa, 21, also died in hospital after he was attacked by football hooligans.
