The Argentina Independent plans on launching a free, independent, monthly publication in June. In order to remain 100% independent, we are hoping to raise the funds to cover the initial costs of design, printing and distribution via crowdfunding platform Ideame.

And to remind you of all the good things we have done over the course of the past six years as a publication, as well as giving you a reason to support us in our bid to go into print and help us keep doing such things, we will be bringing you a taste of some of the good times each week!

Because we like believe that our community of readers is as important as the contents we generate, since we launched we have held regular events to bring our readers together. This week we bring you our pick of best.

If you would like to support us in our fundraising campaign, please visit our Ideame page where you can either make a donation (every cent counts), or help us by spreading the word!

BA Underground Market

Hot off the heels of San Francisco and Toronto, The Indy is bringing the Underground Market concept to Buenos Aires on Saturday 9th June at IMPA la Fábrica. From winter warmers to sweet treats handcrafted by our range of artisan culinary experts, join us in this original space and tempt your tastebuds while enjoying live music. From pickles to pecan pies, cheese to beef jerky, juice and smoothies to hand crafted beer, try new things or retaste old favourites. Pub Quiz

The Indy’s Pub Quiz turns five next month, and we will be celebrating our longest running event with a special edition, courtesy of host and contributor, Daniel Tunnard. An old – but not tired – format, the trivia night attracts a range of expats, most of whom were trivia buffs in their home countries before coming to battle it out with brains rather than brawn in BA.

Film Rush

Film Rush was a challenge for film makers, giving each team just ten hours to come up with a three-minute short which included three elements: a newspaper, an arrival and a lost love. Those who made it then showed their finished products at a screening on Saturday night at Bar de La Tribu in Almagro. We plan on hosting the next Film Rush on Saturday 7th July. Funky 45

For three years from 2006-2009 The Indy hosted BA’s Original Funk Soul Party. Held on the first weekend of each month, playing a mix of soul, rare groove, New Orleans funk, funky jazz, ska, p-funk, deep funk, hip hop, old school, electro and disco beats. If it was funky enough, then our DJs would play it.

BA Book Lovers’ Night

As part of The Indy’s literature month in April, we hosted the first BA Book Lovers Night, an event which marked an end to our Creative Writing Contest, with the winners doing live readings of their works. There was also a free book exchange, with books donated by Walrus Books, rare videos of famous authors reading their work, live storytelling performances by Second Story Buenos Aires, followed by music and mingling. The night was such a success, we plan on hosting another one in the near future.

In a week that sees the return of ArteBA, we recall a bizarre incident from the art fair's 2010 opening, when Buenos Aires mayor Mauricio Macri broke a large artwork.
